Searching Genus for SYMPHYANDRA

SYMPHYANDRA(BELLFLOWER)Family: CAMPANULACEAE
A small genus of Campanula-like perennials native to the Mediterranean and Asia bearing bell-like flowers. As they are rather short lived perennials, it is best to treat them as biennial. For the sunny or shady border.

SYMPHYANDRA hoffmaniiSummer3396
60cm  Zone: 3
I have never quite understood why this very lovely, tough and versatile plant is not grown more. Strongly upright, branching stems carry nodding, bell-shaped ivory-white flowers. Extremely floriferous and free-flowering during the dog days of late summer. Will grow anywhere and is extremely tolerant of dry shade; a stand of it on a slope under pines has been described as follows: "...the nodding, white bells turn your mind to the foaming breakers on an ocean beach." Although biennial, it self sows and reliably flowers each year.
Germination Instructions: Easy, warm germinator.
