A small genus of aromatic mint-scented plants native to eastern North America.

PYCNANTHEMUM virginianumSummer to Late Summer2959
Virginia Mountain Mint60-90cm  Zone: 3
The genus name Pynanthemum is from the Greek "puknos" and "anthemon" meaning “dense flower” referring to the crowded flower clusters. This member of the mint family is native to eastern North America, growing in dry as well as moist prairie. A drought-tolerant, aromatic plant with very narrow, lance-shaped foliage. Profuse flat-topped clusters of white to pale lavender flowers with purple spots bloom over an extended period in mid to late summer. The flowers are surrounded by showy white bracts. All parts of the plant emit a beautiful, minty aroma. The leaves have been used in tea. Seed wild collected in Ontario.
Germination Instructions: Easy, warm germinator.
