PELLAEA

PELLAEA atropurpurea New 3812
Purple Cliffbrake20cm
Native to North and Central America, growing in crevices of dry limestone cliffs, rocky slopes, crevices in alvars and mortared walls. It is a beautiful small species with reddish-purple, bristly stems and incurved leaflet edges. Requires some effort in correct placement in the (rock) garden. Wild collected in Ontario. Very limited.
Germination Instructions: Apogamy, or the ability to reproduce non-sexually, is common among rock ferns in the Pteridaceae. The spores, therefore, are germinated as you would seed. Easy, warm germinator.
