Searching Genus for PATRINIA

15 to 20 species of perennials from Asia and the Himalayas similar to Valeriana with flowers in cymes or panicles. All species thrive on loamy, humusy soil. Many are notorious for their very long flowering periods.

Native to China, a little known and variable species growing on grassy slopes, in open woods and on roadsides in the mountains. Golden yellow flowers in umbels over a long period. The foliage colors beautiful rusty red hues. Perfect at the edge of a woodland garden.

From Japan, China and Siberia, growing in sunny, grassy areas on hills and mountains and introduced into gardens by the US National Arboretum. Oblong, deeply toothed leaves and strong, tall stems carry many flowered cymes in clear yellow. This is a wonderful addition to the late summer and fall gardens, flowering over an extremely long period.
