A small, graceful tree native to eastern North America, growing on dry slopes of woodlands as an understory species. It has a rounded outline with horizontal or drooping branches and a slow growth rate. Bark is greyish-brown. Seed in the fall resembling the fruit of hops. A handsome species which should be more grown. Seed wild collected in the interior of Nova Scotia.
