Searching Genus for LUPINUS
A large genus of 300 annual, perennial and shrubby plants. Many are native North Americans but few are cultivated in gardens. The well known border Lupins provide dramatic color to the garden. Pea-like flowers, borne on spikes on top of palm-like leaves. Will rebloom in fall if flower stalks are cut back after flowering. Able to restore fertility to soil by means of nitrogen-fixing nodules. For sun or part shade. All parts of plant are poisonous.
LUPINUS perennis (naturalized form)
The form of Lupinus perennis naturalized throughout Ontario (likely a natural cross with L. polyphyllus). Primarily blue, sometimes pink or white flowers in summer. Collected in Quebec.
Sandpapering of seed recommended.
