Searching Genus for Geranium
Not to be confused with the annual geraniums (Pelargoniums.) Hardy geraniums comprise a large genus of over 400 species widely distributed over the temperate regions of the world. They are valuable as groundcovers, in the border or as accent plants. Many are long-flowering and will rebloom. Derive their common name from the Greek geranos, "crane" in reference to their beak-like seed heads. Very easy plants: satisfied with ordinary soil, sun or part shade and are essentially free of pests and diseases.
Found throughout eastern North America in woods, thickets and meadows. This is an outstanding and beautiful hardy Geranium with showy lavender flowers in loose clusters above deeply lobed leaves. Best in light shade in the woodland garden. Tolerates dry conditions and is often the first geranium to bloom in the garden in spring. Wild collected in Ontario.
Outdoor treatment over winter recommended.

A wonderful species from the forests in the mountains of Europe. It has the very fine habit of blooming the entire gardening season. Flowers are relatively large and a soft lilac-pink. Will self sow to form a wonderful low groundcover for the woodland garden that will still be blooming when the snow begins falling.
Cold treatment recommended.
