Searching Genus for Dodecatheon

About 14 species of perennials native to North America with a wide distribution. All are similar in effect, having a fleshy rosette from which rises a flower stem carrying at the end an open umbel of cyclamen-like blossoms with reflexed petals and a narrow cone of protruding anthers. The swept-back petals gives them their common name. All want a simple rich soil with plenty of moisture in spring. As most species go dormant during the summer, drought during that time period is not catastrophic.
