Showy native species ranging from Nova Scotia to Saskatchewan and into the eastern and central USA growing in open woods and along woodland edges. The alternate grey-green leaves are divided into 3 leaflets, each leaflet long and triangular. The showy bright pink, pea-like flowers with an elongated lower lip are arranged on erect, densely crowded racemes. A deep taproot makes this plant very drought-resistant and the seeds are used by a variety of birds and other wildlife. Loves clay, but will grow on most soils. Full sun. Seed wild collected in Ontario.
