Searching Genus for CERCIS

A genus of 6 deciduous trees and shrubs native to eastern Asia, southern Europe and the USA with showy pea-like flowers in clusters.

CERCIS canadensis Spring840
Eastern Redbud6-9m  Zone: -30C
This is most certainly one of the most beautiful small landscape trees native to North America. Its native range is the eastern USA from New Jersey to Florida and west into Mexico. A small tree with a trunk divided close to the ground and a spreading, flat-topped, rounded crown. Very handsome with graceful, ascending branches. New leaves emerge reddish purple, gradually changing to dark, lustrous green. Showy pea-like flowers borne in racemes are reddish purple in bud, opening to a rosy-pink with a purplish blush. Seed collected in a -30C northern location.
Germination Instructions: Germinates best in a warm-cold-warm pattern. Abrasion of seedcoat results in fast germination at warm. However, it is difficult to do this without injuring the seed.
